This is personalised tuition for one-to-one learning, focussing on your needs.
Ideal for the following:
- An adult who would like to refresh long-lost skills and gain new confidence. We can focus on the type of project that you would like e.g. bag making or understanding a garment-sewing pattern.
- A child who really wants to learn the basics and then let their imagination take over! Children must be accompanied by an adult who is also willing to learn how to assist them with troubleshooting and safety at home. Simply book a session!
- Tuition on your overlocker, perfect if you own one but are afraid to use it! Book your own session where you can bring it along, learn all about its quirks (including how to thread it!), and all the ways in which an overlocker is so adaptable and useful.
Whatever the focus, Aileen will give you a solid introduction to sewing machine essentials, teaching all the core skills and build your confidence. Within the 2hr session, we will work primarily on machine skills. If time and your pace allow, we will make a small project using the skills you've gained. You do need to bring your sewing tools (if you have some), but you don't need to bring fabric.
IMPORTANT:
Please check here before booking as once purchased, tickets are non-refundable. If you miss your scheduled booking, it is not possible to re-book for another date.
If you wish to bring your own sewing machine, you MUST check with us first by emailing shop@sewyarncrafty.co.uk. If you wish to use an old machine, it MUST be recently serviced by us to confirm that it is in working order and that all required parts are available for successful sewing. If your machine is new, it MUST be a reputable working brand that is capable of sewing straight seams, not a toy or novelty machine. If there is any doubt at the time of your session, we will use our workshop machines in order that you can make the most of the time you have booked. Our workshop machines are always available for use.
SUITABILITY:
This class is suitable for adults and those age 16+.
It is also suitable for children age 7+ however all children between 7-15yrs will need to be accompanied by an adult.
WHAT'S INCLUDED:

- Patterns & info so that you can make the projects again
- Use of our Janome digital sewing machines and studio equipment
- Endless encouragement and advice!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BRING:
- Basic sewing kit (thread, fabric scissors, tape measure, seam ripper, pins etc.)
- Bring a notebook to jot down measurements, instructions and other useful info.
STUDIO ACCESS:
The Studio at Sew Yarn Crafty is accessed from the main shop down a flight of stairs with alternative access direct to the basement for anyone requiring an entrance without steps. If you do have any accessibility needs or questions, please drop us an email.
When attending any class, we will meet you in the shop 10 minutes before the start time. If you are running late and arrive to a closed front door, please go to the side alley (Wilson's Close) to the side entrance (with the bright pink door!) and ring the doorbell.
